Ok folks, so I've decided that it's time to jump into the blogging world.. and so here it goes!
This past month has been a good one- we went to North Carolina to visit my parents and that was a wonderful trip.. but the adventure started before we ever got to the airport- we ate dinner at a pizza place in Ft. Collins, CO called Beau Jo's, and let me tell you, it was DELICOUS! We had been wanting to try it out for a while, so it was just perfect that we could stop and eat there on our way to the Denver airport.
Once we arrived at the airport, it was about 10:30pm and our flight wasn't departing till 5am, so we parked in the shuttle bus parking lot and slept in Zane's truck. Not the best night sleep. We "got up" at 3am and did what little we could to get ready (don't worry, we had the essentials like toothpaste, deoderant, and even perfume/cologne covered, so at least we didn't smell) ;) Sixish hours later, we eating at Bruegger's Bagels in Raleigh and it was the best tasting bagel in the world.
The next day we enjoyed the beach and sun.. as well as good ol' fashioned North Carolina BBQ at Wilbur's in Goldsboro on our way to Atlantic Beach... talk about some good BBQ sandwiches! Once we arrived at the beach, we headed to Beaufort's maritime museum to see the Blackbeard exhibit. Apparently his flag ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, sunk just off the coast and divers are continuing to extract artifacts from it.
Once back in Raleigh, we spent most of them time by the pool that our neighbors so generously allowed us to use when we wanted :) Thanks Markhams! Oh, but I can't forgo the opportunity to also mention the heavenly delicious mint chocolatechip oreo concrete that I had the great pleasure of eating at Goodberry's. It was so great to see Ash and Cooper, and of course little Miss Emma that it made the experience all the better. Emma and Ash enjoyed a raspberry-oreo concrete and I've now put it on my list of things to try :)
And of course, we enjoyed the opportunity to shop! I found (and purchased of course) the most amazing pair of red high heels shoes to have ever been created- in fact, they almost rival Dorothy's red slippers ;)
Zane got a couple of awesome shirts, and we also got a few good things from Ma's favorite store: Retails!
The trip back to Laramie proved to be even more "exciting" than the trip to Raleigh. First, security stopped me to search my bag... the oh so dangerous item in my carryon? Glitter sprinkles for cupcakes. Once we got to our gate (around 1:30pm), we thought we were home free, but oh how wrong we were. We were in line to board the plane when an annoucement was made that the flight was delayed due to bad weather in Atlanta (where we had a layover...) so we sat down and I promptly fell asleep. An hour later, we were on the plane and we thought we were finally getting to go!...but no. We were wrong again. We sat on the plane AT THE GATE for the next 2 hours... when we finally took off, it was just beginning to storm in Raleigh...
By the time we finally got to Atlanta, we had missed our layover. Not cool. Then the next Denver flight we got on ended up being delayed too! Another 3 hours! But it was almost worth it because they upgraded us to first class for free. I had a grilled chicken breast, salad, breaksticks, carmel brownie, and fruit bowl. Zane got a delicious turkey sandwich, chips, the brownie and fruit as well.. all free of charge! Not to mention that there was a deliciously large amount of leg room! Anyways, we were originally supposed to be back to Denver at 7pm, therefore back to Laramie by 9/9:30pm on Monday July 4th... The acutal time of arrival at our apartment?? 2:45AM TUESDAY MORNING! We were beyond exhausted, but our bed (however small the time we spent in it was that night) had never felt more amazing.
And since our return to Laramie? We've been to Jubilee days with some friends of ours, enjoyed some good food, and worked. Not quite as thrilling as our travels, but it feels good to be home and in a routine again..
And speaking of routines... Zane and I have decided we're really going to hit this diet and exercise thing HARD. We both have weighloss goals we want to reach, and so I've decided that it would help me do better if I could track and be more accountable each week. So consider this the official start of the Marie Erickson weight-loss journey. To save myself from total embarrassment, I won't tell you what my starting weight is, but lets just say I've gained some weight since saying "I Do." Total weight-loss goal: 35 pounds by December 25, 2011. If I've calculated correctly, I can reach my goal if I lose 1.5 lbs every week between now and then... so friends and family: WISH ME LUCK! :)
Oh, and as soon as I figure it out, expect pictures from our adventures :)
